R&B singer Ciara just unveiled her new eye color – she’s gone hazel. The beautiful singer/philanthropist wore hazel colored contacts to last night’s CDFA fashion awards.
So what are colored contacts exactly?
There’s nothing really different about colored contacts except they they have, well, color. “The colored lenses have an clear counter part with the same design,” explains Dr. Justin Bazan of Park Slope Eye in Brooklyn, NY. Any person – whether they need corrective lenses or not – can be fit for colored lenses. They last the same amount of time as regular contacts, too.
But there is some controversy surrounding colored contacts – and Black people. May feel that Black people who intentionally lighten their eyes are “selling out.”
The Bluest Eye, Morrison’s first novel, tells the story of Pecola Breedlove, a young black girl growing up in an abusive home and struggling with a crippling inferiority complex due to her not having white skin and blue eyes. By the end of the book, it becomes clear that the only refuge Pecola can find from her mental anguish and torment is in insanity.
